Guantanamo Suicides: Despair or a PR Move?

Described as a "P.R. move," "a tactic to further the jihadi cause," and as "acts of war" by various American spokesmen, the recent suicides of three Guantanamo Bay prisoners is ripe in the media and in the hearts of protesters across the globe. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that no one, save human rights of course, fail to grasp the possibility that these prisoners were depressed and in despair due to being held lawlessly and without hope for endless months or even years.

With around 450 detainees, only ten of which have been convicted of terrorist related activity, it comes as no surprise that people are growing more and more outraged over the insensitivity shown toward prisoners at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba. It's remarks like the following that drive this point home:

They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us.

-Camp Commander, Rear Adm Harris

So here's a message to all you clever A-Rabs out there from eye-rack or any other non-christian, dark-skinned nations of the world: Whatever you do, don't you dare get depressed and consider the the option of death in the face of stress and despair; if you do, you are clearly calling for jihad. However, if you're some poor white guy in a prison hidden in the corn fields of middle America, then feel free to draw your own life to and end because clearly whitey would never be a terrorist. (read: McVeigh). But then again, whitey in the corn fields has got a great life compared to the folks in Gitmo (let's face it, folks, if the US was doing everything by the rules then they wouldn't need to keep this holiday prison retreat in Cuba, would they?).

This begs me to wonder if the US government will ever make the suicide notes (which were found) available to the public, or if the notes would take away from America's own attempted public relations moves regarding this supposed "war on terror."

Human rights campaigners across the planet have been calling for the shut down of this lawless camp, and it's certainly well past due time that something be done. We're all about public protest and voicing opinions at The Liberated, which is why we're also so big on displaying intelligent statements about the current state of affairs in the United States and their involvement in the international community. To fit the nature of this rant on the ever worsening situation at Guantanamo, here's a few anti-Gitmo and anti-torture t-shirts and the like.

The AMERICABlog.com shop has a few great designs in their Gitmo section:

You can't see the text so well in this picture, but it reads "come for the bible study, stay forever."

In smaller college styled text beneath, this one reads "who needs laws?")

And a favorite bumper sticker, sure to grab some attention from the religious right, as well as some applause from the liberal left:
